Since 1967, Camp Dixie has been a place where faith and community grow as people gather year-round for summer camps and retreat weekends. Our summer camps and retreats minister to hundreds of families each summer, develop and mentor young leaders, and share the good news of Jesus. Countless lives are transformed during the many retreats and camps hosted here annually by our Guest Groups.
Going into 2020, our financial reserves were already drained due to the devastation we experienced from Hurricane’s Florence and Matthew. During those seasons of crisis, we shared with you the needs as we saw them, and watched as God faithfully provided what we needed, allowing us to rebuild and continue the vital ministry He has entrusted to us.
Due to COVID-19, we have not been able to gather people for retreats since mid-March. While we continue to plan for our summer season of camps and guest groups, we wait with everyone to see how long it will be before we can safely gather people at our facility once again. Our primary source of operational income is from guest groups and summer camps.
With the uncertainties we face this summer due to COVID-19, not knowing if or when we will be able to host summer camps and rental groups, we find ourselves at a point of crisis. Without additional sources of revenue, the Board could be faced with very difficult decisions concerning the future direction of this ministry.
Throughout God’s story as recorded in Scripture, we read of times when it seemed that all hope was gone and God’s people found themselves on the brink of destruction.
But God . . . the great interrupter of our stories!! Then and now, we’ve seen Him intervene in miraculous ways, bringing abundant provision, and delivering in ways that could only have come from God’s hand.
That’s why our Board of Directors is launching an 8-month campaign designed to provide for the monthly financial needs of Camp Dixie through the end of 2020. There are new chapters to be written in the ministry of Camp Dixie and we trust that God is going to provide.
Our office staff are primarily working from home. Maintenance, foodservice and housekeeping staff are staying busy with projects that can only be done when we are not hosting guest groups.
We continue to look for creative ways to be a place where faith and community grow through the use of virtual planning meetings where we work together on the best ways to present the gospel during summer camp, and mentoring meetings with the students in our high school program. We’re hosting the first of several Campfire Gatherings to gather camper and staff alumni for encouragement and support. The important leadership development training of our CIT’s in early May will be done using an online platform.
Invitation and Involvement
Will you consider partnering with us for the next 8 months by making a monthly tax-exempt donation that will help us through the end of 2020? Please consider our request after giving to your local body of believers. Your consideration of our need during this season means a lot to us. We recognize that many of you may be experiencing financial difficulties during this time, as well.
Given all the uncertainties we may face over the next 8-months, here is our visionary plan to keep the camp operational through this season:
- 100 people give $100 per month
- 100 people give $50 per month
- 100 people give $25 per month
The potential based on this giving scenario would bring in up to $140,000.
We are also gathering Prayer Partners who will support us during these uncertain times as we communicate with you concerning the needs that arise. ”Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 NIV
If you are ready to partner with us at one of the levels listed above or one of your own choosing, please follow this link to communicate your response to us. Once we hear from you, we’ll be in touch to assist you in making your monthly donation through a method of your choosing.
Thanks for your prayerful consideration!
Grace to you,
Executive Director on behalf of the Camp Dixie Board of Directors
